Turkey and Iran has agreed on new flights…..

The civil aviation authorities of Turkey and Iran came together on 29-30 April in Ankara and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop flights between two countries.

During the meeting under the chairmanship of General Director of Civil Aviation, Dr. Ali ARIDURU and Iran Deputy Minister of Transport, Hossein KHANLARI, it has been agreed to increase flights between Turkey and Iran.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding after negotiations, the number of flights increased from 10 to 14 between İstanbul Atatürk Airport and Tharan İmam Humeyni Airport. Besides these flights begining on 1 September 2008, the number of flights from any international destination points to Mashad, Siraz and another third point to be determined in the future, increased to 15 frequencies in each week.

The parties, which agreed on not to perform charter flights from Iran to Atatürk Airport, agreed on four frequencies of charter flights weekly from destination points in Iran to Sabiha Gökçen Airport and other scheduled flight points.

It was also decided to remove limitations on cargo flights between İstanbul and Tahran with the MOU. As a result, the cargo flights between two countries fully became free.

It is expected that the agreement with Iran will contribute to Turkish tourism in the next summer season. Turkey, which is one of the most attractive destinations for Iran tourists, hosted more than 1 million people from Iran last year. It is thought that more people will visit Turkey parallel with the increase in the number of flights.
