Turkey is becoming Training Center of EUROCONTROL
In the meeting, that was arranged during the visit of David McMILLAN, General Director of EUROCONTROL, on 4 March 2008 in General Directorate of Civil Aviation, it has been agreed on to make Turkey training center of Eurocontrol.
During the meeting with General Director of Civil Aviation, Dr. Ali ARIDURU, General Director of Eurocontrol emphasized Turkey’s importance to become the training center due to recent developments in civil aviation, regional meetings and its strategic location.
While he mentioned that the progress in Turkish civil aviation is followed closely by international organizations, he told that he performed his first international visit to Turkey after his appointment to his position in January 2008.
Within the meeting, in which international regional activities performed by Turkey were discussed, it was stated that if Turkey shares its present potential in Caucasus, Middle East, North Africa and Black Sea geography, this will contribute to global flight safety. After the meetings of TRACECA, and General Directors of Mediterranean and D-8 countries in 2007, GDCA performed its forth regional cooperation meeting with civil aviation authorities of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) countries on February and it hosted the first meeting regarding civil aviation arranged under BSEC cooperation.
Dr. Ali ARIDURU, General Director of Civil Aviation, mentioned that relations among region countries will strengthen due to these meetings and common activities with the leadership of Turkey and that civil aviation activities and flight safety standards in the region will improve further with the support of Eurocontrol for the establishment of training center.
